Phil Patterson Inc. was founded in 1970 after Phil Patterson learned about a friend’s struggles with importing raw materials. At that time, U.S. Customs had just opened an office in Omaha, but the city had no customs brokers to assist importers. Seeing a vital need in the community, Phil seized the opportunity. He left his career in the insurance industry, trained under Charles M. Schayer, a well-known customs broker in Denver, and passed his customs broker exam to become Omaha’s first licensed customs broker.

Phil’s determination to solve his friend’s problem and his drive to be the first to offer a solution reflect the core values of Phil Patterson Inc. Today, we take our customers’ importing challenges personally, working closely with them to find tailored solutions that meet their unique needs. Navigating the ever-growing list of complex regulations can be daunting, but we believe it’s our responsibility to help make the process as smooth as possible.

This commitment is why we place such a high value on our skilled team; nearly 50% of our staff are licensed customs brokers. Unlike competitors who might leave customers to decipher regulations on their own, we provide hands-on guidance to ensure understanding and compliance with all applicable regulations.
